FREE FLOW OF INFORMATION .

A survey by CPNN

We list here 274 events in 12 European countries that were listed in Google during the week of September 21-28 under the key words “International Day of Peace”, “Journée Internationale de la Paix”, “Dia Internacional de Paz”, “Dia Internacional da Paz”, “Internationaler Tag des Friedens”and “Giornata internazionale della pace” or were listed on the websites of International Cities of Peace Facebook and the website of the Collectif de 21 septembre.

In addition to these, over 300 events are listed on the maps of One Day One Choir and Montessori schools singing for peace, but there is no indication which took place this year and which took place only in previous years.

GRENOBLE, FRANCE

Peace march. Departure: Place St Bruno, in Grenoble (in front of the small amphitheater) at 10 a.m.
Arrival: Place Lavalette (in front of the new museum)
This March of Peace, which is part of the International Day of Peace on September 21, decided by the UN 20 years ago, will be repeated that same day in dozens of cities in France, as well as in many foreign countries.
It intends to demonstrate the will for peace which drives many of our fellow citizens, in France and elsewhere. Isère does not intend to be outdone of this fine ambition, undoubtedly the noblest of all.
This march also aims to put pressure on our government to sign (finally) the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TIAN) adopted by a majority of States in 2017, but snubbed by our country until then. All that is needed is the signature of six countries for this treaty to have binding legal force at the international level. Now is not the time to relax our civic effort …
The more of us there are on this occasion, the greater will be our political force.
We will be free to bring the banner of our imagination, or even our favorite musical instrument.
Naturally, in doing so, we will respect all the prophylactic rules imposed by the current epidemic: protective masks, distancing; we will occupy all the space that will be suitable for this purpose.

This intervention is related to the story of the Japanese girl Sadako Sasaki. Shee was only 12 when she died of the effects of her exposure to the Hiroshima atomic bomb. While she was hospitalized, she got to know the legend of the thousand “tsurus” and the wish she could see fulfilled. Sadako cultivated the hope that the gods would grant her healing and then went on to make origami. She died on October 25, 1955, before completing the thousand “tsurus”. Sadako turned out to be the symbol of the civilian victims of the nuclear war. “A child, like so many others, victims of a war she didn’t understand”, lament the elements of Agora Aveiro, in the information panel that accompanies the installation of the “tsurus”.

Sadako set out to create a thousand paper cranes, wishing for a world without war – but following her death from radiation poisoning in 1955, children (and adults alike) have continued her wish worldwide to this day.
Members of the WCIA team and volunteers each created cranes to form a colourful sculptural ‘flock’ reflecting WCIA’s peace pathways – 7 themes of internationalist action (remembering war, opposing conflict, offering sanctuary to refugees, championing women and equalities, building international solidarity, inspiring future generations, and working in collaboration).

France: Declaration of the National Collective: March for peace 2020

FREE FLOW OF INFORMATION

Statement by the national collective “En Marche pour la paix” on the occasion of the International Day of Peace (September 21) and the United Nations Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (September 26, 2020)

Saturday, September 19 “Together for Peace and against climate change, for social justice and human rights, for nuclear disarmament”

The Covid-19 pandemic has made it clear that the destiny and interest of all humanity is at stakr. In the face of predatory forces, driven by neoliberal globalization, seeking to make immediate profits from all human activity, and to preserve their stranglehold on the world through an unprecedented increase in military spending, the mobilization of all citizens has become the order of the day.

In France, this crisis has highlighted the inadequacy of the means made available to public health services, social divisions that are unacceotabe and an economy incapable of providing rapid and effective solutions to deal with the pandemic.

The urgent need for new policies to ensure human security (physical, health, economic, ecological and social) for populations in France and around the world is understood and shared by a growing number of people and organizations. Faced with this pandemic, everywhere in the world, the potential for creativity and solidarity to cope has been revealed, but also an awareness of the harmfulness of a certain number of political choices and of the need for human resources and financial resources allocated as a priority to economic, social, health and ecological security and to the well-being of populations through a consequent reduction in world military expenditure which in 2019 reached the level never reached of 1917 billion dollars in 2019 (1624 billion euros).

In this context, the national collective “En Marche pour la paix” has decided, as in previous years, to contribute to the success of the International Day of Peace (September 21) and the United Nations Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. (September 26).
Everywhere in France, on Saturday, September 19, let’s organize Marches for Peace and various public initiatives to allow the expression of popular demands:

* for peace and against climate change,
* for social justice and human rights,
* for nuclear disarmament.

More than ever it is necessary to cry out loud and clear: Stop wars, Stop violence, Stop misery, Stop injustices. Together, let us act to shape peace and the development of a culture of peace through the construction of a united world, free from all weapons of mass destruction including nuclear weapons, a fairer and more human world. Humanity’s future has no other path than peace.

In addition to marching for eace, the collective “En Marche pour la paix”

* Will address all elected officials, whether parliamentarians or mayors, to highlight these emergencies,

* Will organize a videoconference on Friday September 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to allow expression of the diversity of organizations calling for the success of the International Day of Peace and the Marches on September 19,

* Will organize a videoconference with international participation on Saturday September 26 from 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. in order to underline the urgent need for ratification of the Nuclear Weapons Ban Treaty adopted at the UN on July 7, 2017 by a grand number of States and in particular by States possessing nuclear weapons,

* Will address all the embassies present on French territory to ask that States everywhere respect the peoples’ aspiration for peace and international law with regard to the elimination of all weapons of mass destruction and for the allocation of funds for the achievement of the objectives of sustainable development, protection of the planet and human security in the economic, health, ecological and social dimensions,

* Will ffirm its solidarity with all social struggles that carry the values and objectives of the 8 areas of Culture of Peace, the Sustainable Development Goals and the conclusions of the Paris climate conference.

‘Stop Lukashenko’: Hundreds of Thousands Protest Against Belarusian Leader for Eighth Straight Day

Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered in Belarus on Sunday [August 16] for an eighth straight day of anti-government demonstrations a week after Alexander Lukashenko, who’s ruled the country since 1994, claimed victory in an election widely viewed as fraudulent.

Protesters in Minsk held signs reading “We want fair elections,” “Stop Lukashenko,” and “Stop the violence.”

A pro-government rally also took place in the capital, though that crowd’s estimated size of roughly 10,000  was a fraction of the roughly 200,000 that came out for the opposition action.

From Politico:
In a rambling speech to his backers, Lukashenko gave no indication he was prepared to give way. He insisted that the August 9 election—widely considered a fraudulent vote that gave him an 80 percent victory—won’t be held again.

The Associated Press reported:

During 26 years in office, Lukashenko has repressed opposition figures and independent news media. But this year, protesters fed up with the country’s declining living standards and Lukashenko’s dismissal of the coronavirus pandemic have posed the biggest challenge to his rule.

Amnesty International warned  last week that Belarusian authorities were carrying out a campaign of torture and mistreatment against the anti-government demonstrators.

“For days the world has watched in horror as police in Belarus fire rubber bullets and tear gas, into crowds of peaceful protesters. It is now becoming increasingly clear that the bloody scenes on the streets of Belarus are just the tip of the iceberg,” Marie Struthers, Amnesty International’s director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, said in a statement Thursday.

“Former detainees told us that detention centers have become torture chambers, where protesters are forced to lie in the dirt while police kick and beat them with truncheons. They described being stripped naked and subjected to sadistic beatings while listening to the screams of other victims,” said Struthers. “These are people whose only ‘crime’ was to take to the streets in peaceful protest.”

“What we are seeing in Belarus is a human rights catastrophe that demands urgent action,” she said.

Mayors and Ecologists on the Left in France: A “tour de force”

. . DEMOCRATIC PARTICIPATION . .

An article by Florent Le Du in L’Humanité (reprinted by permission) (translation by CPNN)

About twenty socialist, environmentalist and communist mayors gathered in the Loire Valley on Tuesday to build a network for sharing ideas and building common projects. Without aiming for the presidential election, they assure.

Among the mayors meeting in Tours on July 21, from left to right: Léonore Moncond’huy (Poitiers), Eric Piolle (Grenoble), Emmanuel Denis (Tours), Anne Hidalgo (Paris) and Johanna Rolland (Nantes). Guillaume Souvant / AFP

One hundred years after the famous Congress, Tours was once again, on Tuesday, at the heart of the debates of the Left, for a day. Green-pink-red elected officials – mayors, deputies or metropolitan presidents of twenty-one cities – gathered there for a working seminar, at the invitation of the new municipal councilor, Emmanuel Denis, who wishes to create a federation of town halls for “social ecology”. Anne Hidalgo (PS, Paris), Bruno Bernard (EELV, metropolis of Lyon), Nathalie Appéré (PS, Rennes), Johanna Rolland (PS, Nantes), Éric Piolle (EELV, Grenoble), and Léonore Moncond’huy (EELV , Poitiers) notably made the trip.

This meeting is a foreshadowing of the future, said the mayor of Tours. The voters have sent a clear message: they want an acceleration of the transition to renewable energy. Synergies must be set up between these cities, especially those that are ecologically advanced, a network of humanist cities.”

Three central themes

Ecology was widely discussed during this meeting, with the issues of 5G, clean transport, the development of bicycle networks, ecological transition and waste treatment. Beyond the environmental issue, elected officials also worked on the city’s policies in terms of youth and precarious employment, integration of working-class communities, reception of refugees, housing and a social and solidarity economy.

Question related to this article:

How can culture of peace be developed at the municipal level?

(article continued from left column)

“We spent the morning sweeping through the various topics around three central themes, which are solidarity, ecology and citizenship. For each of these subjects, it will then be necessary to have regular exchanges in order to build real common projects, continue to be inspired by what colleagues are doing and weigh in order to remove certain constraints”, explained Gaylord Le Chequer, deputy to the PCF mayor of Montreuil, Patrice Bessac.

“An ambiguity”

The Tours gathering is therefore the birth of a network for the convergence of ideas, exchanges of good practices and mutual aid. It is not a new movement with the Élysée in the sights, say the elected officials present. A few days ago, in the Journal du dimanche, the president of the metropolis of Lyon, Bruno Bernard, had mentioned “an ambiguity” on this subject and a need to “clarify things”. “This has been done, no personal ambition or prospecting for the future of national politics has been put forward,” he said on Tuesday at the end of the first half-day of work.

However, this network of left mayors has an interest in having a national resonance, according to Nathalie Appéré, PS mayor of Rennes: “We are not building a new left here, but a left of the territories which will have to be heard at the national level. It is essential to remove certain blockages, particularly on the ecological transition. We have battles to take to the government. According to Anne Hidalgo, “obviously, this convergence must also make it possible to transform 21 votes of mayors into one. We are decentralizers. We must finally get out of this archaism in which our country has been immersed for a very long time, this Jacobinism, this Colbertism, which means that everything is decided at the level of the ministries in Paris. ”

“Congress of Tours reversed”

Hidalgo, the elected mayor of Paris, had already announced, on the eve of the second round of municipal elections, the transformation of its “Paris en commun” platform into a “lasting political structure” with the objective of creating a “federation” with a view in particular to preparing the next electoral deadlines. Until then, all of the questions discussed during the Touraine seminar will then be divided into working groups. “With the health crisis we have become accustomed to meeting remotely, this is what we will do very regularly with all the mayors gathered here, and others like Michèle Rubirola in Marseille”, explained Emmanuel Denis. . Regular meetings like yesterday’s are also planned “in order to maintain momentum and never lose the connection”. The mayor of Touraine hopes to be able to hold this rally again in his city at the end of the year: “Since the split of the left took place in December 1920, we can celebrate this centenary by uniting it again. A sort of inverted Congress of Tours.

‘Incredible Green Wave’ in French Elections Celebrated as ‘Mandate to Act for Climate and Social Justice’

“It’s an incredible green wave.”

That is how Yannick Jadot, a European Parliament lawmaker from the Europe Écologie Les Verts (EELV) Party, described a slate of victories for the Greens in the second round of local French elections on Sunday.

Photo of Anne Hidalgo from France24

The second round of voting, which followed the first round on March 15, was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Yet even with the delay, Sunday saw “an historic level of abstention,” the Guardian reported. “More than 60% of local mayors had been already decided in the first round, but many major cities and towns, including Paris, Marseille, Toulouse, and Lyon, remained up for grabs.”

EELV secretary Julien Dayou hailed the election results as “historic” in a statement Sunday. “Today, ecology is taking a big step. A giant step,” he declared. “It is THE mandate to act for climate and social justice. The French are ready for change. The French are ready for change. Great, so are we.”

Exit polling showed EELV candidates—who, in some cities, joined forces with other leftist parties—winning in Annecy, Besançon, Bordeaux, Grenoble, Lyon, Marseille Poitiers, Strasbourg, and Tours, according to Reuters and EuroNews, which noted that “the alliances they formed will also see them play key roles in other local councils across the country, including in Montpellier but also in Paris.”

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, a member of the Socialist Party who first took office in 2014, won another six-year term by a large share of votes in the French capital Sunday. Hidalgo recently created the “Paris in Common, Ecology for Paris” alliance with David Belliard, leader of the Green Party fraction in the Council of Paris and a mayoral candidate who came in fourth during the first round of voting in March.

“You chose hope, you chose unity, you chose a Paris that breathes, a Paris that will be more pleasant to live in, a more united city, which leaves no one on the side of the road,” Hidalgo said after her victory Sunday. “I hope that all the forces working in service of our fellow citizens are involved in the transformation of our city, which is all the more urgent because of the crisis we are going through.”

The mayor—who earlier this month released a manifesto with Belliard that calls for banning diesel cars, halving parking spaces, and reducing speed limits—told voters that “with you we will build the Paris of tomorrow.”

“A Paris that gives resources to its public services so that they can carry out their missions, in particular for the health of Parisians,” she said. “A Paris that allows everyone to change their way of life, to move better, to eat better, with respect for our environment as a common value. A united Paris that helps those who need it most. A Paris of difference that fights all forms of discrimination. A Paris that gives its youth a real chance and that gives them the keys to act.”

The wins for the Greens across France came as La République En Marche! (LREM), a centrist party launched by Emmanuel Macron just before his 2017 presidential victory, “received a drubbing on Sunday in municipal elections,” as Reuters reported.

Macron had hoped the elections would help anchor his young party in towns and cities across France, including Paris, ahead of an anticipated 2022 reelection bid.

But aides had more recently been playing down expectations and the sweeping wins by the Greens, who in some cities joined forces with leftist allies, may compel Macron to reshuffle his government to win back disenfranchised left-wing voters.

“Ecology is the area where Macron is perceived as having done nothing,” Frederic Dabi, director of pollster Ifop, told Reuters. “The French will want results on green issues.”

In a perceived nod to the election results on Monday, Macron announced that a new law would be drawn up before the end of the summer to “reconcile economy and ecology.” The president said that €15 billion would be invested in “the ecological conversion of our economy” over two years, through the end of his first term.

Sibeth Ndiaye, a spokesperson for the Macron government, previously told French television that the elections results were “extremely disappointing.” In what reporters described as the “rare” and perhaps “only bright spot” for Macron, Prime Minister Édouard Philippe won his mayoral race in Le Havre with 59% of the vote.

As The Guardian reported: Jérôme Fourquet of the pollsters Ifop said local elections were historically a way for the population to punish those in power. However, he said it would be difficult to interpret Sunday’s results because LREM, a fledgling party created to carry Macron to power in 2017, had few outgoing mayors. While Macron’s centrist party is dominating French politics at a national level, having fragmented the traditional right and left, it has little representation locally.

“LREM will score badly because it has no outgoing mayors to lose, it has to win,” Fourquet said. “And most French mayors come from the traditional right and left. This means, in terms of sanctioning those in power, it will not be easy to read.”

He added: “Nationally, there are two main forces in politics right now, the Rassemblement National and Macron. At a national level, Marine Le Pen is his main opponent. But these two forces are not present at a local level, where Les Républicains and the Parti Socialiste are most solid.”

The French city Perpignan on Sunday elected as mayor far-right candidate Louis Aliot, a former romantic partner of Le Pen, the Rassemblement National (RN) leader.

In a Monday analysis for The Local, Paris-based journalist John Lichfield argued that the triumph of the Greens in major cities “transforms the political landscape” but “it doesn’t mean that France will elect a Green President in 2022. The quarrelsome French Greens will find it hard to transfer their successes to national level.”

After detailing some of the major losses on Sunday, Lichfield wrote, “We are now in strange territory for French politics.” He explained:

Everything was once predictable. There were two main “families,” center-right and center-left, who took turns to govern, nationally and locally, in much the same way once they were in power. The whole two round system of elections was designed to reflect—and preserve—that status quo.

…The EELV may now emulate its green German sister party and take over the center-left lane in French politics from the divided Socialists. Even so, the dawn of the Greens threatens to add yet another competing “family” to a French political system designed for only two.

Lichfield made similar points in a series of tweets Sunday. Writer Benjamin Ramm responded by saying that “much of the important work done by the Greens is at municipal level. This is where they show that they can govern. And this in turn shapes the national landscape.”

Third edition of the Paris Peace Forum

FREE FLOW OF INFORMATION

Press release from the Paris Peace Forum

The third edition of the Paris Peace Forum, which is set to take place 11-13 November 2020, will be the first event on the international calendar focused on constructing a better world post-pandemic. During the Paris Peace Forum, the Finance in Common Summit on 12 November will highlight the role of Public Development Banks in reconciling the necessary short-term responses to the crisis with sustainable recovery measures that will have a long-term impact on the planet and societies.

Bouncing back to a better planet

Amid suffering, anxiety and uncertainty, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the fore the urgency to better organize the planet through innovative new forms of collective action.

Chiefly devoted to the multi-actor response to the COVID-19 pandemic and serving as a platform to push forward solutions both to improve our immediate response and to be better prepared in the future, the 2020 Paris Peace Forum is based on the conviction that we can collectively overcome the enormous challenges before us – and learn from this crisis to rebuild a more sustainable world. The main issues covered throughout the Forum will focus on solutions to recover from the pandemic: to improve global governance of health; to fix and make capitalism greener; and to get data and social media to help, not hurt.

In 2020, the Forum will thus emphasize projects and initiatives from around the world seeking to respond to the COVID-19 crisis, improve our collective resilience and build a more robust and sustainable world. All key actors of global governance, from Public Development Banks, states, international organizations, NGOs, companies, foundations, philanthropic organizations, religious groups, trade unions, think tanks, universities, and more are invited to submit innovative solutions to the 2020 Call for Projects of the Paris Peace Forum, currently open through 12 May at 6pm (Paris time).

As the Paris Peace Forum convenes actors of change from around the world to discuss global governance and multilateralism, the Finance in Common Summit will gather the whole development bank community, comprising more than 400 Public Development Banks (PDBs). PDBs are public institutions controlled or supported by governments, with a mission to perform public mandates, so that certain social and economic objectives drive their operations. The Summit will examine their crucial role, both during the crisis and in the long-term, in building a more resilient and sustainable world going forward. The first gathering of its kind, the Finance in Common Summit is a unique opportunity to build a new coalition of Public Development Banks, to foster cooperation among them, and to reconcile the entire finance community in support of common action for climate and Sustainable Development Goals.

The ambition of the Summit is to release a collective statement from all Public Development Banks declaring their willingness to align with sustainable finance principles and incorporate the goals of the Paris Agreement, the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the 2030 Agenda into their business strategy, core standards and impact analysis.

Leading up to the Summit, a research conference will be held on 10 November, during which a consortium of prominent academic institutions will present papers and share insights about how PDBs can produce better finance over the long term.

“The current crisis shows how dependent national leaders are – even those rejecting multilateralism – on collective action for essential tasks like finding and distributing a vaccine, supporting fragile countries, and restoring a Coronavirus-free world. Never has the multi-actor approach that underpinned the creation of the Paris Peace Forum been so necessary.”

– Justin Vaïsse, Director General of the Paris Peace Forum

“IDFC members have collectively mobilized their financial capacity and expertise to provide an immediate response to the short-term health challenges as well as to prepare for a postCOVID-19 world that will require a long-awaited paradigm shift.”

– Rémy Rioux, IDFC Chairperson

“We need to think multilateralism in networks, closer to the people; we need to work hand in hand with regional organizations but also financial institutions, development banks and specialized agencies.”

– António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General

As the global public health situation is at this stage impossible to predict come midNovember 2020, the event is currently planned to take a hybrid format: partly inperson, partly online.

More than 29 thousand people registered in the Second International Montessori Congress, a free virtual event

. EDUCATION FOR PEACE .

An article from Murcia.com

From July 6 to 10, the second International Montessori Congress will be held, organized by Miriam Escacena, head of Your Montessori Guide, and by the renowned researchers, trainers and founders of Montessori Canela International, who this year will join the organization of this international event, Marco Zagal and Betzabé Lillo Orellana, who contribute their more than 10 years of experience in teacher training and transformation of schools in Spain and various countries.

The virtual event will bring together thirty experts from Spain, Chile, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Sweden, France, Slovakia and Italy. Most of the speakers are friends and collaborators of Montessori Canela and will speak on different topics related to education as an element of social change. The presentations can be seen for free during the week of July 6-10.

In Montessori schools, the children are not required to sit passively in regimented rows of desks.

In Spain there are around 150 Montessori schools.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of María Montessori, the founder of Montessori schools.

The program is based on eight axes: Montessori Education, Human Development, Inclusive Education, Educational Neuroscience, Public Schools, Educating with the family and Educational documentary films, united by the theme “Educating in the now: Montessori, culture of peace” ..

The opening ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 5 at 6:00 p.m. in mainland Spain and will be broadcast through the organizers’ social networks.

Question related to this article:

What is the best way to teach peace to children?

(Article continued from left column)

Betzabé Lillo Orellana points out that “the purpose of this congress is to be able to convey a message of hope, optimism and tranquility in a context as uncertain as we are in, which is why we emphasize Educating in the Now, since it is important to take this crisis as an opportunity to rethink how we want to live life, discovering the essentials in everyday life, getting closer to the real meaning of happiness.”
The Congress promises a space that allows participants to :

– Become aware of the human potential that is present in the adverse situations of life, because, well oriented and accompanied, they become a source of growth to consider adversity as an opportunity.

– Search for alternatives to find within yourself that energy that is needed to overcome and advance in any difficult or problematic situation that we are experiencing.

– Connect with the creativity that is in each child, youth and adult as part of their being, as a transforming force that takes greater prominence in family, socio-cultural and specific adversity situations such as what happens in these times of pandemic.

– Know experiences, life stories and the creative duality of theory and practice in different areas that favor a more humane education.

– Mutually share inspiration to be able to help all of us nurture an awareness that helps us see that everything we are experiencing is an opportunity to change and grow.

This Congress is aimed at all people who seek to contribute to a better education, to a better society. Marco Zagal explains to us that “there are parents, professionals, and self-taught people from different areas who are always looking to learn something new or reinforce ideas that allow them to create respectful spaces in the different areas of childhood and adolescence. The contribution that we believe this Congress will give to families and professionals is directly related to a broader understanding of what children and adolescents are, and how caring for their psychological, emotional, social and physical life is the best gift. and the best inheritance that we can leave them. ”

Miriam Escacena highlights that “after the success of the congress last year, this year we are once again uniting with a spirit of trust with great expectation”. In these times in which we are facing a true paradigm shift, in which that change in the educational system that so many long for is finally coming true, accessible and quality initiatives are necessary more than ever.

France: Solidarity with the struggles of pacifists and anti-racists in the USA, following the murder of G. Floyd

TOLERANCE & SOLIDARITY .

A post on June 1 from the facebook page of Roland Nivet, Mouvement de la Paix, France [Peace Movement]

Protests and demonstrations following the murder of George Floyd in Minnesota (USA) last week by police continued to intensify across the United States on Sunday and Monday to protest this horrific murder and the string of racist murders in the US.

President Donald Trump attributed the violence to “thugs” who, he said, “dishonored the memory of George Floyd. This comment, which preceded the announcement of repressive measures against various American organizations, drew criticism from Keisha Lance Bottoms, the Democratic mayor of Atlanta.

Readers’ comments are welcome. See the form below.

(continued from left column).

According to Amnesty International of the USA, “the US police do not respect the right to peaceful protest. They are failing throughout the country to meet their obligations under international law to respect and facilitate the right to peaceful protest … This exacerbates a tense situation and endangers the lives of demonstrators. We call for an immediate end to all excessive use of force and for law enforcement officials to guarantee and protect the legal right to demonstrate. »

Our pacifist correspondents in the US believe that current events “should be interpreted as public mourning, from people shouting that the killing of black and brown people should no longer be tolerated. These uprisings across America reveal a thirst for democracy and the fact that young and old of various ethnicities recognize that this is a time when we must stand up against this history of inhumanity that has existed for too long and that discrimination, racism, and the killing of black and brown people must be stopped. For these activists, “Now is the time to change America! We are going to fight together with the awareness that our struggle is linked to struggles inside and outside the country, wherever there is injustice.

Mouvement de la Paix condemns this new racist murder and brings its total solidarity to the peace and anti-racist activists who are fighting a hard fight in the USA.

Mouvement de la Paix reaffirms its determination to continue its fight against racism and xenophobia in France. More than ever, the fight against racism, xenophobia and the rise of extreme right-wing extremism must unite all humanists throughout the world.
