Sesi and GRPCom sponsor Peace Fairs in 10 cities of Paraná, Brazil

On 29 and 30 June, ten cities of Paraná will host Peace Fairs, community events that encourage activities reflecting the culture of peace and educational, cultural and leisure initiatives for the population. The events are an initiative of Paraná Sesi [Social Service of Industry] in partnership with the Paranaense Group for Communication (GRPCom) and the communities where the fairs will be held.

The events will take place simultaneously in Curitiba, Rio Branco do Sul, Ponta Grossa, Guarapuava, Umuarama, Cascavel, Foz do Iguacu, Maringá, Londrina and Apucarana. The idea is to mobilize communities around the state to reflect on how to reduce violence in cities and take actions that can raise awareness about the damage caused by various types of violence, encourage citizenship and to develop educational and socialization processes in the localities.
"The initiative contributes to the establishment of links between different local actors, which reinforces the sense of belonging and everyday practice and lead to building sustainable communities for peace," said Jose Antonio Fares, superintendent of Sesi Paraná. According to him, in this initiative, SESI-PR applies its experience of coordinating and mobilizing the community through its institutional programs such as the Education Local Arrangements, the Network of Local Development, We Can Paraná, Paraná's Corporate Citizenship Council (CPCE) and Junior Achievement.
Each location with a Fair will have a different program specifically adapted with activities that develop local talent, such as cultural groups, services, art workshops, recreation and education for peace. All nine of the state fairs will feature the "Tree of Attitude", which will put together the intentions of the community to reduce violence in the workplace - what each person can do individually to make peace. Another action common to all the fairs will be the group embrace for peace, where residents hold hands around the site of the event calling for an end to violence.
The first Peace Fair was held in 2011 in Vila Sandra, the industrial City of Curitiba (CIC), in partnership with the Association of Residents of Zimbros Houses. At the end of March this year, the community of Vila Sabara also in CIC, hosted a Peace Fair in partnership with the association "Friends of the Sahara," SESI and GRPCom.
