Kalinga [Philippines] lines up Week for Peace activities

The province of Kalinga will be celebrating a "Week for Peace" from December 4 to 10 with the theme, “I am for peace” aiming to promote a culture of peace among the people.

The week will open with a motorcade. Speakers during the event will be Governor Jocel Baac and Vice Governor Allen Jesse Mangaoang. Col. Roger Salvador of the 501st Infantry Brigade will be presenting the overview of the celebration while Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Froilan Perez will give an update on the peace and order situation of the province. The day’s events will include the launching of the week-long activities such as the opening of the Photo Static Display at the provincial capitol, opening of the three-day job’s fair, the week-long Jam for Peace Concert and the five-day team–up for peace friendship games. In the evening would be the Lights and Songs for peace to start with the lighting of the 1st Advent Candle followed by choir songs through the Kalinga Apayao Religious Sector Association (Karsa).
Day two is dubbed as the "Education for Peace Day" to be held at Agbannawag National High School. This will be highlighted with a poster-making competition with the theme “Environment and Peace" to be participated by representatives of the four districts of Kalinga. It will be followed a symposium on Environment Protection in the afternoon. In the evening would be the start of the Jam for Peace Concert.
Day three would be the “Health for Peace” to be held at the Kinama National High School in Rizal. Activities include bloodletting, free haircut and circumcision, gift giving and provision of ornamental trees to be planted in the school campus.
Day four is the “Tourism for Peace Day” highlighted with a city tour in Tabuk.
Students from the various high school and colleges in the province will be conducting a "Youth Peace Heritage Camping" on the Peace Camp Day on December 8 at the Talama for two days. Activities during the camping are mural painting competition, sunset watching, a barbeque and cultural presentation.
On Sunday, December 6, will be the celebration of mass and continuation of the Jam for Peace at the St. William’s Cathedral.
The last day of the week-long event will start with a Peace Parade followed by a program to be highlighted with the signing of the Peace Covenant Reaffirmation led by the provincial and agency officials. In the evening will the concert simultaneous with a fellowship program. The evening will be concluded with the release of sky lanterns as symbol of peace and fireworks display.
