Peace Corner will house festival booths concerning peace and sustainability-related initiatives as well as an event/speaker tent. In the tent, throughout the festival will be workshops/presentations on peace and sustainability-related topics as well as dance groups and a Capoeire African-Brazilian martial arts presentation and the creation of a peace mandala by Christy Wynveen.
The Peace Corner is an initiative of the People of Peace, a newly formed grassroots community in Sheboygan County with the mission of promoting a culture of peace in our area. The People of Peace invite all those who share the value of peace to visit their booth in Peace Corner and learn more about how to become involved.
Realizing that the goal of affecting world peace from Sheboygan County is quite overwhelming, the People of Peace have taken the perspective of Peace From The Inside Out.
“The question we want to address,” says founding member Barbara Ryon Hill, “is how do each of us become people of peace in a world of interpersonal, not to mention international, conflict and, too often, violence? Peaceful people build peaceful communities.”
People of Peace will provide peace-building workshops beginning with Hill overviewing the concept of “Peace from the Inside Out” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by Daryl Gumm speaking on “The Language of Peace” at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Hill will provide strategies for building inner peace at 10 a.m. and Greg Ryan will talk about “Peace in the Neighborhood” at 3 p.m.
In the Peace Corner will be the booths of Veterans for Peace, the North Shore Gathering, an inclusive spiritual community which emphasizes peace, and others.
The PEACE (Prevention, Education and Community Empowerment Group of Safe Harbor) shelter will be on hand to help with children’s activities.
