A Peace Party

A peace party was held by a group called Grassroots Action for Peace at the First Parish Church in Concord, MA On February 16, 2007. This party celebrated the massive demonstrations against the planned Iraq war that were held on February 15, 2003. Millions of people turned out all around the world on that date, and we had large photos showing these. The one that made the most impression on me was the formation of pictures and words by human bodies on the Santa Monica beach!
More than 100 people attended, including representatives from about twenty peace action groups in the greater Boston area, each of whom had a couple of minutes to describe their current activities. The celebration therefore extended to the present and future. There was a lot of energy in the room and networking. To top off the evening we had songs from a local branch of the Raging Grannies, and a delightful performance from the progressive comic Jimmy Tingle.
There is much action for peace now, with participation and leadership by many younger people which is essential. We need to convince them to stay active after the current United States created wars are over, to prevent future wars.
