un articulo por PressAfrik

The National Commission for UNESCO with the support of the multisectoral Regional Office for West Africa / Sahel of UNESCO in Dakar organized a workshop this morning on the promotion and popularization of self-study modular courses from the ECOWAS reference Manual for Peace Education, Human Rights and Citizenship. The meeting was held at the National Training School for Family and Social Economy.

According to Mamadou Dia, Head of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences at the National Commission for UNESCO, "this reference manual of ECOWAS has been designed by experts from the education systems of the Sub Region. All countries were represented. There were many phases of design and validation held in Dakar, Lomé and Ouagadougou which organized technical validation. It was later followed by institutional validation by the Ministers responsible for these matters. As a result of this process there are seven modules that have been elaborated in this manual available online. And UNESCO has requested an extension to self-study modular courses drawn from this reference manual."

The seven modules evoke different themes, namely: Culture of Peace, Conflict Management and Prevention, Human Rights, Citizenship and Citizenship, Democracy and Good Governance, Gender, Peace and Development Perspective, Public Health, Environment and Sustainable Development. And the last theme is Regional Integration.

This meeting takes place at a time when the issue of Human Right is acute because of numerous conflicts, for example in Mali, Nigeria, Chad, Central African Republic (CAR), etc.

The ECOWAS vision is to create a borderless region that is prosperous, with peace and harmony, based on good governance, and where people can have access to enormous resources, through the creation of opportunities for sustainable development with preservation of the environment.

The meeting was attended by several authorities. Among others: Youth movements, women's groups, security forces, journalists, teachers and members of civil society.
