Equality between Women and Men in Audiovisual Media: Call for a project and publication of manual

The Francophone Network of Media Regulators (REFRAM) is appealing to its national member organizations for pilot projects favoring the equality between women and men. The appeal seeks to identify and finance projects that encourage and sustain the promotion of men/women equality in audiovisual media and in the action of national media regulators. Deadline for submission of projects is December 1, 2012.

[Note by CPNN: REFRAM is composed of 28 national authorities concerned with regulation of the media in their countries. Among the members of REFRAM are 17 African governments, as well as Canada, Lebanon and 8 European governments.]

At the same time, the Network is publishing a manual of actions that can be taken to integrate gender equality in the policies of regulators, designed to accompany the work and reflexions of Network members, as well as others who may be interested (media regulators, media workers, associations, academics, etc.)

This appeal for a project and this publication, sustained by the International Organization of Francophonie, is within the framework of the Declaration on Equality between Men and Women in Audiovisual Media that was adopted in 2011 by the Presidents of the national organizations belonging to REFRAM.

Founded in 2007, REFRAM . . . aims to establish and reinforce solidarity and exchange among its members It provides a space for debate and information of exchange and contributes to training and cooperation. It works for the consolidation of a rule of law, democracy and human rights. The presidency of REFRAM for 2012 is held by the Conseil supérieur de l’audiovisuel de la Fédération Wallonie- Bruxelles. The International Organization of Francophone holds observer status in the Network.
