What disturbs the peace in Huancavelica ?
According to the Ministry of Interior, the problems
are family violence, alcohol and gang formation by
minors 12 and 14 years old.
What is the origin ?
Many cases are remnants of what was experienced at
the time of political violence, sometimes the
problems are passed on from father to son. There
is also the problem of people who were displaced
and in many cases do not know how to go back, or
how to recover their lands.
What should be done to change things ?
We need to create a culture of peace; in
Huancavelica we have not known the culture of peace,
which is a way of living in harmony in each of our
homes.
It also includes psychological treatment.
To achieve a culture of peace we need to
coordinate efforts and strategies across multiple
sectors. It is a work of several institutions. We
need to coordinate efforts with the Ministry of
Women and Social Inclusion, with the health
sector, with local government and all needs to be
coordinated with the state.
It is a painstaking task .
Indeed, but also the authorities need to take the
information to their communities and treat it as a
major issue .
What activities are taking place in Huancavelica ?
Since this is the first visit since my
appointment, I need to collect information from
authorities on social problems and coordinate
efforts among institutions.
The Commissioner for Peace announced that on the
22 and 23 May an event will be organized in the
auditorium of the Agricultural Directorate .

:
CPNN has often carried articles about establishing a culture of peace at the level of the city, but there are also some advantages to promoting a culture of peace at a somewhat broader regional level.
In particular, the culture of peace needs to be based on a sustainable economy, which, in the long run, should depend on local agricultural production more than imported food. This requires that the unit for the culture of peace include not only the city, but also the agricultural region surrounding it.
