According to Camilo Ossandon, the coordinator of the program, "the sixth version of the Participatory Budgeting program aims to expand participation in the different stages of the process. It is true that this year we have managed to increase the number of participants and we are very happy about it."

This increased participation legitimizes the initiative process that will apply to the program, and which will require funding to improve different aspects of quality of life that residents have identified in the various meetings.

The professional also added that, "this allows the municipality to generate more inclusive processes of residents in decision- making, and it ensures that the work of our city authorities is more attuned to what the public expects".

Currently, "we are just at the stage of identifying initiatives, and studying the feasibility of those initiatives that residents have prioritized in this diagnostic stage, to see if they can meet all the technical requirements. If so, they will be forwarded in the context of the objectives to be attained, along with appropriate requests for funding, keeping in mind the minimum parameters required by the application program," Ossandon concluded.

This year 400 million pesos are being alotted by the municipality of La Serena to the residents for implementation of their projects.
