The Foundation Schools of Peace Celebrates the International Day of Peace

The Foundation Schools of Peace, non-governmental organization located in Colombia, is celebrating the the International Day of Peace with three activities.

1. Encounter with rectors, academic coordinators, and docentes of 20 district educational Institutions of Bogota. This encounter aims to promote peace education, human rights, democracy, tolerance, and international understanding through the active participation of school directors, to establish their involvement as managers of the culture of peace through concrete actions, and to certify their commitment to work jointly in a network of peace educators, conditions needed to improve the lives and relations of young people in the city of Bogota. Location: the headquarters of the Foundation Schools of Peace, Bogotá, Colombia

2. Certification of 20 youth peace constructors. In developing the project at the Centro de Desarrollo Juvenil Altos of Cazucá diplomas will be given, in a special ceremony, to 20 young people who received training in culture of peace, participation, human rights and democracy. Location: Colegio Gabriel García Márquez, Comuna 4, Municipio de Soacha, Colombia.

3. Meeting of the Youth Network of Schools of Peace. On the occasion of the celebration of the tenth anniverary of the Foundation Schools of Peace, 40 young professionals, of different disciplines, will meet, taking part in the Youth Network of Schools of Peace. During this decade all of them participated, or still participate, in the diverse programs that the Foundation develops in the promotion of the Culture of Peace, education for peace and education for human rights. Location: Foundation Schools of Peace, Bogota Colombia.

The Foundation Schools of Peace is a nongovernmental organization that has worked for 10 years in the promotion of the culture of peace, peace education, and education in human rights. It includes three networks: Network of Schools of Peace, Network of Educators for Peace and the Youth Network of Schools of Peace.

It is difficult to find extensive listings of the many events celebrating the International Day of Peace around the world.  An exception is the United Religions Initiative which lists events for the IDP 2014 by their affiliates in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, United States and the Philippines.
