	Tar Sands Keystone XL Pipeline - 'A Dirty Business' un articulo por Pax Educare, Inc.  Four Connecticut residents, including Pax Educare founder and director Mary Lee Morrison, who were arrested in an act of civil disobedience at the Tar Sands Action in Washington DC earlier this month, will talk about their experiences. Video available at Tar Sands Action click on photo to enlarge Over 1200 participants were arrested over a 2 week period in which organizer and environmentalist Bill McKibben and others have said is one of the largest actions of civil disobedience in the history of the environmental movement and the largest sustained action since the civil rights era. Included in the numbers arrested were Gus Speth, emeritus Dean of the Yale School of Forestry and a co-founder of the Natural Resources Defense Council, and NASA climatologist James Hansen, who has said that if we continue to tap into Tar Sands, frack for gas and continue mining coal, while contiuing our reliance on fossil fuels, it is essentially "game over" for our climate. Nine Nobel Laureates have signed a letter to President Obama asking him not to sign onto this pipeline. Our president has the final decision on the issue.   We will meet with others at the Friends Meeting House, 144 South Quaker Lane in West Hartford. Arrive at 6:30 pm for a dessert potluck, and then at 7:15 pm, our report and discussion regarding what it was like in Washington, DC. But there are governments like India which are conscious of over exploitation of the earth’s resources and are taking suitable policy measures and also taking legal action against the exploiters. We must emphasize public transportation and reduce our dependence on individual cars even though the auto industry will not like this. Otherwise it is not demain but aujourdhui — the problems are there for us to see.
