In a time when Colombia is getting closer to a negotiated solution
to the internal armed conflict; Moreover, in Venezuela, the country
is going through a delicate cultural, social, economic and political
situation. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the space to think
and act for citizens on the frontier.
To realize the International Seminar, it is necessary to convene a
significant group of actors, keeping in mind that the impact of
Colombia's internal conflict and the continuing conflict in
Venezuela are of concern to the entire region and are the
responsibility of all.
In this regard, we must work to regain the understanding of the
border area as an area of articulation between neighbors, as a
region where it is necessary to protect the common good of present
and future generations, according to Daniel Rubio of the School for
Peace and Coexistence.
The installation of the International Seminar on Peace and
Reconciliation will be under the responsibility of the director of the
Center for Research and Popular Education, Luis Guillermo
Guerrero. Speakers will include the Bishop of Cúcuta, Monsignor
Julio Cesar Vidal Ortiz; the priest Francisco de Roux SJ. and Dr.
Carlos Beristain, of Spain, among others.
All religious, social and public organizations located on the
Colombian-Venezuelan border are invited to jointly reflect and act
on the problems facing the country. From the State of Mérida State,
will take part the Chair of Peace and Human Rights "Mons. Oscar
Arnulfo Romero "of the University of Los Andes, the political
scientist Walter Trejo Urquiola, general coordinator.
