General Assembly resolution A/RES/64/13 recognizes Nelson Mandela’s values and his dedication to the service of humanity, in the fields of conflict resolution, race relations, the promotion and protection of human rights, reconciliation, gender equality and the rights of children and other vulnerable groups, as well as the uplift of poor and underdeveloped communities. It acknowledges his contribution to the struggle for democracy internationally and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world.

To honor this international day, ‘The World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media – WAALM’ and its collaborative artists jointly present an original music remembering the life of this remarkable man.

‘MADIBA’ is written by International Lyricist and Co-founder of WAALM, Dr. Mosi Dorbayani with a melody and arrangement by Andysh. This stellar music, which depicts and reflects the thoughts of Mandela is released in two versions of ‘Afro-Pop’ and ‘Afro-Blues’ recorded by Danish singer, Elisabeth Popp and Kenyan vocalist, Nasambu.

‘MADIBA’, which is facilitated by WAALM - Canada, England & Wales, is dedicated to ‘Nelson Mandela Foundation and it is one of the events registered on Mandela’s International Day website.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation delivers to the world an integrated, dynamic and trusted resource on the legacy of Nelson Mandela and with this, our mandate to promote the vision and work of our Founder by convening dialogues and creating platforms for engagement around critical issues to promote social justice and drive positive change.

ON MANDELA'S LASTING LEGACY

In death, as in his life, Nelson Mandela has captured the imagination of the world. Mourning mixed with celebration has electrified crowds all over South Africa and elsewhere. His life’s achievements and his lasting legacy are the topics of discussions. He has been described as a great warrior, a great liberator, the last giant in the fight against colonialism, forgiver, peace maker, and in many other ways.

All this week, Mandela’s lasting legacy has been on my mind. We tend to capture the legacies of great men and women in a word or two. A scientist becomes famous for an important discovery, a writer for a famous book, a musician for a great composition, and so on.

People like Mandela fall in a different category. He is in the category of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King. . ... continuación.
