Some 70 companies from 11 countries will take part
in the Festival, an event that annually attracts a
great number of women's theater groups, their works,
their experiments, their knowledge and their
thinking.
The Colombian Theatre Corporation, under the
direction of artist Patricia Ariza, will host the
22nd edition of Women on Stage for Peace, which
will begin on August 8, 2013 and will feature 18
international groups, 22 national groups and 30
local groups.
For three weeks the capital of Colombia will be
filled with color and joy with theatrical works
coming from Mexico, Cuba, Peru and Brazil, among
other countries.
The event will continue until August 31 with outdoor
presentations, workshops, seminars and national and
international meetings focused on a culture of peace
from women.
According to information released by Prensa Latina,
there will be about 100 functions in conventional
spaces, 18 rooms throughout Bogotá, and another 20
localities available tothe program under the
sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture.
The festival has become a meeting place for artists,
activists and advocates for the rights of women,
cultural promoters and builders of peace brought
together through the performing arts.
Under the theme "Women bring art and take part in
the peace processof Colombia," the meeting seeks to
expand considerations to include discrimination
against women, including such contentious issues as
trafficking, abortion and violence.
The festival of Women for Peace is "taking part in
the political settlement of peace through art and
theater. A culture of peace is an urgent cause,
but so broad that it has room for everyone," said
Patricia Ariza, director of the Colombian Theatre
Corporation.
