A group of twenty NGOs at UNESCO was formed to raise awareness and give visibility to September 21, International Day of Peace.

Accordance with the wishes of the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly the goal is to multiply initiatives at all levels with a work of reflection, creation and peace education.

The group contacted educators in all countries, inviting them to create a marionnette performance of up to 15 minutes and to film and send it by vimeo.

Fifty videos from five regions of the world have been received, so many that it was not possible to finalize the project on 21 September 2013 at UNESCO. Instead, the liaison committee has accepted the proposal to make a big event in September 2014 headquarters in Paris.

On 21 September this year a dozen of the videos that have been received will be screened in Charleville- Mézières at the international puppet festival at the invitation of UNIMA and the municipality.

This is a good springboard for 2014 and an original approach among the multitude of efforts around the world for a culture of peace.

The website of the project is marionnettesdelapaix.org including all those who have contributed videos as well as the sponsoring NGO's at UNESCO.

All the films are visible at http://vimeo.com/user16438782.

Comentario más reciente: :

Yes, the arts do create a basis for a culture of peace.
The question I would raise is where are the visual artists who have produced a Guernica like painting of Felluja? Paintings last longer than photographs which are too often fleeting.
Do the poets against the war meet annually?
I caught a bit of an interesting tv show which featured world class artists such as Wole Soyinka speaking in Israel/Palestine about ways to further the peace movement there. Did anyone else see the entire show?
I hope a local Peace Day could emulate the UN opening ceremony .
