The MST will be honored for organizing farmers who have no land in the struggle for agrarian reform.

"We have now achieved more than 1,500 legalized settlements, comprising 350,000 households and a total of 5 million hectares," said the local mayor, José María Gorroño.

The decision was made by the jury composed of political representatives of Gernika-Lumo, the mayor of the German city of Pforzheim, Gogoratuz Gernika, the Foundation House of Culture and the Museum of Peace

The activity will take place during the activities commemorating the 76-year anniversary of the bombing of Guernica.

The bombing of Guernica was an air attack on April 26, 1937 by German aircraft of the Condor Legion during the Spanish Civil War in the Basque Country. Thousands of people died.

The painting of Guernica by Pablo Picasso in 1937, is usually treated as representative of the bombing suffered by the town of Guernica.
