The President of the Republic, Mohamed Moncef Marzouki, stressed that violence against women is a real problem that Tunisian society must face.

"The rights of women as a whole are not only guaranteed by the Personal Status Code (CSP), but also by the right to education, to health, to employment and to respect of their the physical integrity, "he added at the opening, on Monday in Sidi Thabet (governorate of Ariana), the first shelter for women victims of violence. He pointed out that the Tunisian revolution has revealed terrible truths about violence against women in Tunisia, and he reaffirmed his commitment to the fight against this phenomenon in all its forms.

Marzouki insisted on the necessity to spread the culture of human rights, preserve the dignity of women and their economic and social rights through protection against exploitation, poverty and marginalization, so as to construct a balanced society.

For her part, the Minister of Women and Family, Sihem Badi, expressed her hope to see the pilot center, whose inauguration coincided with the celebration of the International Day of Human Rights, become a space of psychosocial support to women victims of violence.

She emphasized the determination of her department to implement a national strategy for the fight against all forms of violence against women and children.

Badi focused on the role played by civil society in the dissemination of the culture of social peace and the rejection of violence against women.
