	Rally for Healthcare as a Human Right (USA) un articulo por David Hazen, Eugene City of Peace Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) Lane County Oregon and Healthcare for All Oregon (HCAO) Eugene will hold a rally on Monday, December 10, 2012, to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations. click on photo to enlarge The UDHR expresses the legal and moral basis for adopting the concept of health care as a Human Right. According to article 25: "Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of oneself and one's family, including... medical care." Speakers at the rally will include: • Pete Sorenson, Lane County Commissioner • Dr. Mark Brauner, PNHP Lane County Oregon • Marc Shapiro, HCAO-Eugene • Lou Sinniger, HCAO, AFSCME Retiree • Ruth Duemler, HCAO Eugene Adopting Healthcare as a Human Right (as it is defined in the UDHR and several other treaties) is the first step in changing the system. It will create a sense of urgency and necessity, encouraging and empowering legislators to enact progressive health care reform targeted at providing healthcare that is equitable and universal. U.S. polls show that a super-majority of Americans believe that health care should be a right, and President Obama has said that health care should be a "right for every American." “It’s time for the United States to catch up to the rest of the modern world and act on current declarations and ratify more progressive treaties,” says Dr. Mark Brauner from PNHP. “Health care is a right, not a privilege or a commodity.” HCAO and several state legislators are working on draft language to amend the Oregon constitution to state that health care is a human right.
