Cajamarca declares the need to promote a regional culture of peace [Peru]

The regional government of Cajamarca has declared the public interest and need for promoting a regional culture of peace and constructive management of regional social conflicts, according to an ordinance published today in the bulletin of Legal Standards of Official Peruvian Journal.

The region has declared that the Management of Social Development will design and develop policies and strategies for promoting the culture of peace and conflict prevention in a period not exceeding 90 days from the effective date of the decision.
They also instructed that office to undertake actions, activities and policies aimed at preventing and resolving social conflicts, and the promotion of a culture of peace.
In addition, local governments are requested to implement and articulate their actions so that the ordinance is included in their work plans and their respective territorial jurisdictions.
It also instructed the executive body of the regional government of Cajamarca to take the necessary actions to help implement the decision.

CPNN has often carried articles about establishing a culture of peace at the level of the city, but there are also some advantages to promoting a culture of peace at a somewhat broader regional level.
In particular, the culture of peace needs to be based on a sustainable economy, which, in the long run, should depend on local agricultural production more than imported food. This requires that the unit for the culture of peace include not only the city, but also the agricultural region surrounding it.
