Join us for 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Violence!

Nobel Women’s Initiative, together with many other women’s organizations worldwide, is again taking part in 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence. For 16 days — from November 25th to December 10th — Nobel Women’s Initiative will spotlight women activists from around the globe. This year, we feature activists who are working tirelessly all over the world to defend women’s rights and establish a future for women that is free of violence and discrimination.

This year we will profile Indigenous-Canadian women who are opposing the oil sands and proposed Northern Gateway pipeline, Mexican and Honduran women’s rights activists who are taking action to stop the murders and disappearances of women, Palestinian and Israeli women opposing the occupation, Iranian women political prisoners, and Burmese women’s rights activists who are wary of the engagement of the west with Burma’s current regime, and more.
Laura Reyes is an activist from Ciudad Juárez, Mexico who is deeply committed to justice for her family. Laura’s family is well-known in Mexico as they have been targeted and brutally harassed as a result of their work for justice. Many of her cousins, aunts and uncles have been assassinated.
Crystal Lameman is a Beaver Lake Cree First Nation activist and the Peace River tar sands campaigner for the Indigenous Environmental Network in Alberta, Canada – and a mother of two. Crystal is committed to restoring Native treaty rights and stopping the expansion of the Alberta tar sands.
Lubna Masarwa is an activist from Palestine and has said that activism is in her blood. A true defender of human rights, Lubna has said that she fights not just for her people in Palestine – but on behalf of people all over the world who are oppressed, who deserve a life that is free from injustice.

16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is a global annual campaign which aims to bring attention to gender violence and highlight the work of activists all over the world. It was first initiated by the Women’s Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership in 1991.
The campaign begins on November 25, the International Day Against Violence Against Women, and runs until December 10, International Human Rights Day. This year’s campaign theme is ‘From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Let’s Challenge Militarism and End Violence Against Women’.
