A Song for the International Day of Friendship
an article by Christelle, World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media (WAALM)

The International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.

The resolution (A/RES/65/275) places particular emphasis on involving young people, as future leaders, in community activities that include different cultures and promote international understanding and respect for diversity.

The Day is also intended to support the goals and objectives of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace and the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001-2010).

To mark the International Day of Friendship the UN encourages governments, international organizations and civil society groups to hold events, activities and initiatives that contribute to the efforts of the international community towards promoting a dialogue among civilizations, solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.

To celebrate this international day, The World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media – WAALM, invited Canadian vocalist, Krista Earle to lend her voice and talent to record an original song in title of 'Oh You My Friend'.

The song is written by Dr. Mosi Dorbayani with a melody and arrangement by Andysh. The song appreciates the role of friends in our daily life and highlights the importance of understanding between the two.

The song is composed for Rock and is recorded live by Asatid Records.

"As an artist and performer I feel it is important to be a good role model and set good examples and values while bring joy through music. In my view raising awareness to issues in our shared communities and voicing activities and charities close to our heart are a responsible thing to do and I encourage my peers to contribute to their societies, where and when needed.

For example, getting the message of 'Friendship', 'Human values', 'Understanding', 'Dialogue', 'Kindness and care' through to the world is among those important elements close to my heart and I will do my best to voice such values through my music." Krista Earle says.

The song will be available on 30th July for streaming and free download at:
