Taking the Peace Pledge

At the 8th annual UNESCO International Leadership Programme at the University of Connecticut in the US, 64 participants from over 50 countries collectively committed themselves to a culture of peace today by taking the Peace Pledge in solidarity with Kids for Peace, a global nonprofit organization based in San Diego. Led by the American delegate, Annie Macpherson, they each raised their right hand to make a peace sign and recited the following:

“I pledge to use my words to speak in a kind way,
I pledge to help others as I go throughout my day,
I pledge to care for our Earth with my healing heart and hands,
I pledge to respect people in each and every land,
I pledge to join together as we unite the big and small,
I pledge to do my part to create PEACE for One and All.”

After the pledge, Nilofer K. Habibullah, a delegate from Saudi Arabia expressed “taking the pledge reiterated our primary goal of our commitment to humanity and peace.” Veronica Alonso from Brazil added that when taking the pledge, “we spoke with one voice as if we were one nation with no barriers committed to the same cause.” “The Peace Pledge was a call to be peaceful and compassionate with myself and with others all the time,” remarked Sophia Boutilier from Canada.
Touched by the Pledge, Anurag Gupta from New York is excited to introduce and teach it to his toddler niece.
Kids for Peace Kids for Peace began in 2006 with two co-founders, Jill McManigal and Danielle Gram. The two shared a common vision to bring children together to lead the way for a brighter and more peaceful future. Here, at the forum, young leaders continue to spread the pledge throughout the world.
