an article by Libération (abbreviated)

The work of the International Youth Meeting held in Dakhla, Morocco, was marked by the announcement of the creation of a World Network for Human Peace. By means of this network, the participants in this meeting, which brought together youth from different countries, hope to contribute to the diffusion of the values of peace, dialogue among civilizations and regions, the struggle against violence and education for a culture of environmental preservation and sustainable development.

For the youth taking part in the meeting, which was organized by the Forum of Young Moroccans for the Third Millenaire and the Association of Studies and Research for Development, the creation of the World Network for Human Peace is the result of their desire to take part in different developments on the international scene and to participate in laying the base for world peace. The four days were marked by workshops on the themes of peace, as well as cultural and artistic activities and actions in solidarity and for protection of the environment.

Partnership agreements were signed with local associations during the meeting which climaxed in an inauguration ceremony for a "peace pole" in the presence of members of the Executive Committee of the World Peace Organisation . . .

The coordinator of the International Youth Meeting, Driss Guerraoui, emphasized that "the organisation of this event in the heart of the southern provinces of the Kingdom reflects the pioneer role of Morocco in the promotion of the values of tolerance, dialogue and sustainable development at an international level" . . . For her side, Fumi Johns Stewart, of the World Peace Organisation, congratulated the event which brought youth from different parts of the world to debate interesting subjects and to address a message of peace to all the peoples of the world . . .

Saturday morning, the youth participants learned about a series of development and touristic projects in Dakhla. They visited an agricultural region at Tawarts, a project for the raising of ostriches, a water treatment station, and the port of Dakhla. The meeting which had opened the previous Thursday, was organised in partnership with the Agence du Sud, the Groupe OCP, the wilaya of Oued-Eddahab-Lagouira, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Royal Air Maroc and the World Peace Organisation.

In the evening, the 250 youth participants, coming from many different nationalities, visited the regional center of the Moroccan League for the Protection of Children where they offered gifts of clothing, blankets and games for the kids in this establishment which was created in 2003. . . They also visited a center of the "Leader" Association of the green market, where they learned from this association about their work against illiteracy and the training in certain crafts for handicapped persons.
