Bai Rohnaniza "honey" Sumndad- Usman has spent her
life in the effort for peace. Honey was born into
royalty, although she grew up outside of wealth,
she showed an interest in peace and helping others
at a young age. When honey was 7, the Gulf War
broke out, which only strengthened her stance for
peace. Honey worked as Philippine Country
Director and Coordinator for Asia America
Initiative (AAI), which has done much work for
public health, education, and giving opportunities
and hope to the children that organization works
with. Honey comes from a unique background with a
Muslim father and a Catholic mother, and this
background has help Honey to be excepting of
everyone and a very strong advocate for peace and
understanding of others.
After Honey finished high school in Saudi-Arabia,
she went to Assumption College in the Philippines,
which helped expose her to her Christian heritage
from her mother’s side of the family. Honey
wanted to prove that different religions could
work together due to the similarities that they
hold, despite the differences they may have.
Through her effort to teach peace, Honey found the
need for a book to help her in her work. In her
search for a book she asked AYLC alumnus, Marlon
Jinon, help her come up with the idea of a book
with three characters that each represent: Islam,
Indigenous Culture, and Christianity. The
resulting book, The Mighty
Adventures of Kapayapaan is an important book
in her teachings of religious peace because it
shows that the three religions can get along.
