The book is a course taught by its author(s) River
and Joyce Higginbotham for more than two decades.
The authors' claim is that, "Whether or not you
decide to be a Pagan once you finish [the book] is
not as important as providing you with tools to
help you identify your values and goals." It is a
different type of book on Paganism. You can use
this book as a group or individually.
The book provides the general characteristics of
Paganism: ethnics, beliefs, essentials, basic
fundamentals, the sacred Pagan year, holidays, the
concepts of interconnectedness & blessedness,
Paganism god/goddess worship, rituals. Paganism:
An Introduction to Earth Centered Religions goes
to great spiritual depth, helps sort out the
what(s) and why(s) of belief(s), and helps to
define human nature. As well as this, it shows the
“Big Tent” of Paganism (Celtic, Druid, Wicca,
Christo-pagan, Santeria, etc.) as compared to the
“Big Tent” of Christianity (Methodist, Baptist,
Catholic, Jewish, etc.).
Periodically throughout each chapter, there are
activities designed for group and/or self-
reflection. Such as, meditations, questions of
study to ask yourself or as a group, journal
topics to write about, exercises to perform
(physically, visually, or to ponder on), along
with many other interesting activities. These can
help you to discover why many of us take it
seriously and if the Paganism religious path is
right for you.
