Hope and Signs for Long-term Peace in Syria
un article par Serkan Kurucu
There is a civil war going on in Syria for more than
one and a half years already. But at the same time,
something else important is happening in Muslim
life. Today is the first day of the sacrifice
holiday.

The Sacrifice Holiday means sharing, visiting
friends and relatives, eating and gathering together
as a family. Even with the civil war in Syria,
living the holiday in peace is also the right of the
people who live there.
The war in Syria is between opponents and Syrian
government. Thousands of people have had to leave
from their home because of that. They all suffer
because of civil war. Thanks to involvement of
third parties, today an agreement was made about
stopping the civil war for 4 days. The
government of Syria announced that they will
respect what was agreed on and that leaves a
positive impression. Even though it is only short
time, those 4 days mean a lot for people in Syria.
People will begin to breathe the peace. It is
their religion and they have a right to enjoy it
in peace.
There is another side of this progress. People who
live in Syria hope that this 4 days peace
agreement will be a signal for further peace talks
and that the government and opponents will make a
long term agreement. Thus, they will be able to
llve in peace. It is a dream that needs to be
dreamed.

I am an Iranian. A descendent of Cyrus The Great. The very emperor who proclaimed at the pinnacle of power 2500 years ago that "... he would not reign over the people if they did not wish it." And [he] promised not to force any person to change his religion and faith and guaranteed freedom for all. The Charter of Cyrus The Great is one of the most important documents that should be studied in the history of human rights. . ... continuation.
