From the International Day of Peace, September 21, to the International Day of Nonviolence, Oct. 10, schools registered for the nonviolent Challenge will organize races of one and two kilometers to promote non-violence.

The program was launched last year, and 12,000 students across the province participated then.

In collaboration with the international organization World Without Wars and Violence, the concept has also been implemented in several other countries around the world. More than 5000 students from schools in France, Argentina, Ireland, Ecuador, Mexico and the United States have participated.

In the greater Montreal area, more than 3,000 students ran for the cause last year.

The Nonviolent Challenge team organized a second event. A race will take place in Saint-Lazare, west of Montreal, September 9. The younger kids can run a mile or two and the older kids five or ten kilometers.

The funds raised by the race at Saint-Lazare will support the Nonviolent Challenge Program in schools.

Commentaire le plus récent:

It is difficult to find extensive listings of the many events celebrating the International Day of Peace around the world.  An exception is the United Religions Initiative which lists events for the IDP 2014 by their affiliates in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, United States and the Philippines.
