Her husband and two daughters were present at the event where the "National Prize of Culture of Peace 2012" was announced. The prize honors the history and consequences of persons or firms who have defended and worked to build a peaceful society with equity and justice.

"We believe that our country is making efforts to reverse adverse situations, and to contribute to the culture of peace and we believe that they should be recognized," said Executive Director of UNIR, Aramayo Antonio Tejada.

The selection committee was composed of representatives of institutions and personalities who launched an invitation for nominations and who then selected the most deserving of this recognition.

The award, consisting of a statuette made by a renowned artist Bolivian, will be delivered at a special event during the celebration of the International Day of Peace, organized by various institutions along with UNIR, on 21 September in the city of La Paz.

Ana Maria Romero de Campero had a great career as a human rights defender, journalist of excellence and was a beloved woman who worked for social justice and peace in Bolivia. She was also founder and director of UNIR (2004 - January 2009).
