International Day for Prayer for Peace and Youth Network
un article par Beatrice Mukhtar Mamuzi
Greetings form the World Council of Churches (WCC). My name is Beatrice Mukhtar Mamuzi. I work at WCC in the area of Spirituality and Worship in an Ecumenical Context. I also work with the Decade to Overcome Violence (DOV).
I am writing to you because the DOV is currently preparing for the International Day for Prayer for Peace in September 21st The International Day for Prayer for Peace was and still is the United Nations Initiative. And the WCC joined this initiative to encourage churches to be in Spirit of prayer with those who face Violence in their daily life. Please visit our web-site which contains details of the Annual Focus and Resource for Worship.
We have churches who have committed themselves to pray on that day. As well as other Ecumenical Groups worldwide There is also a Peace Youth Network which was established few months ago to motivate young people to pray together with the others.
Therefore, the DOV would like to urge all of the network of CPNN to organize a prayer on that day and send us the names of the churches and other ecumenical gathering so we can put them on the WCC website. Thank you very much for your time and cooperation as I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Here is the famous prayer of St Francis of Assisi which is on this year's poster.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

It is difficult to find extensive listings of the many events celebrating the International Day of Peace around the world. An exception is the United Religions Initiative which lists events for the IDP 2014 by their affiliates in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, United States and the Philippines.
