Colombian Network Football for Development and Peace

The organisation Con-texto Urbano, a member of the streetfootballworld network, is coordinating the first meeting of the Colombian network for "Football for Development and Peace".
Following the first networking steps, in which a variety of Colombian organisations active in the field of "Football for Social Development" were identified and then visited, Con-texto Urbano is now organising an initial meeting of the future Colombian network "Football for Development and Peace" (Red Colombiana de Fútbol Desarrollo y Convivencia). The network is inspired by the organisations' determination to find fellow partners with whom they can jointly run sustainable projects in the field of "Football for Social Development" in various parts of the country.
This landmark meeting will take place on May 17th and 18th 2007 in Bogotá and its aim is to establish a platform for the exchange of know-how and experience that will help the participating organisations strengthen their own activities and ensure the sustainability of their work. In addition, the organisations are determined to increase public awareness of their contribution to the improvement of the lives of countless children, youths and women across Colombia.
The participating organisations and initiatives are: Colombianitos (Bogotá), Escuelas de Fútbol para la Paz (Manizales), Escuelas para la Paz Antonia santos F.C. (Cúcuta), Fútbol y Convivencia (Urabá Antioqueño), Escuelas Deportivas COMFACA (Caquetá), Fútbol a la Calle (Cali), Fundación Prodeporte (Cauca), Fundación Tiempo de Juego (Bogotá), Asociación Con-texto Urbano (Bogotá). Guests are : Fundación Deportiva Internacional Nobles de Zamora (Venezuela) and Fundación Iván Hurtado (Esmeraldas, Ecuador).

'Lost Boy of Sudan' still running at Northern Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Lopez Lomong was 6 years old when, in the dark of night, he and three older boys crawled through a small hole in a fence and ran barefoot for three days to escape their Sudanese rebel captors.
Sixteen years later, in the pines of Flagstaff with a comfortable life he never imagined, he is running still. . .
Next week, Lomong, a sophomore at Northern Arizona University, will be among the favorites in the 1,500 meters at the NCAA track and field championships in Sacramento, Calif.
"I have to picture myself when I was six years old, running from the death I saw. " he said. "God brought me over here safe and gave me the opportunity and ability to run. . ... continuation.
