Under the Same Sun: A film for Israel and Palestine
un article par Search for Common Ground

Video: Under the Same Sun

Search for Common Ground (SFCG) Jerusalem has recently co-produced Under the Same Sun with Amir Harel of Lama Productions, a feature length docu- drama for local and international audiences. Directed by Sameh Zoabi, the film follows two businessmen – one Palestinian and one Israeli – as they struggle, with surprising and dramatic results, to build a joint business venture in the face of political, cultural, and family opposition.

Under the Same Sun seeks to humanize the “other” for both Israeli and Palestinian audiences, and aims to dispel the belief held by many that there is no partner on the other side. Ultimately, it is grounded in the idea that for meaningful peace negotiations to resume, the two publics need a vision worth striving for. The docu-drama stems from our 2005 CGP four-part documentary, Shape of the Future, broadcast on Israeli and Arab TV, which focused on the final status issues which, if solved, could lead to an Arab/Israeli peace agreement

The film was recently broadcast simultaneously on October 2nd 2013 on Israel’s most popular TV Channel 2 and the independent Palestinian Ma’an satellite station. In the coming months, it will be screened at festivals and to audiences in the US and Europe. Under the Same Sun was funded by the European Union and the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

Here is another view of the Hamas/Fatah agreement, sent to CPNN by the Palestinian peace activist, Mazin Qumsiyeh:

People asked me about the latest "reconciliation" agreement between Fatah and Hamas. Most Palestinians here are skeptical of the sincerity of leadership in Fatah and Hamas and most still think these leaders are driven by narrow factional and personal interests than by interest of Palestine; noticeably absent was the popular Front For the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), the largest secular faction after Fatah. Women leaders also complained about the exclusion of women voices and youth were also absent as most of those politicians are my age or older. In my talks (and I give several every week to visiting delegations and local people), I emphasize that people must wake up and push politicians to do the right thing. That is how history changes: via people especially youth and women. Of course, many wish that politicians show some leadership for positive change but we the people have to act. Meanwhile, we have an ongoing slow genocide of the Palestinian people. 7.4 million are refugees/displaced people and that number keeps growing. . ... continuation.
