The Venezuelan José Antonio Abreu is awarded the Culture of Peace Prize in Japan

Venezuelan orchestral conductor José Antonio Abreu
received on Thursday [October 10] the Special Prize
for Culture of Peace in Japan, from the Goi Peace
Foundation .

The foundation awarded him the prize for having
"devoted his life to social work to promote culture
through music", according to the briefing note from
FundaMusical.
In that regard, the paper explains that this award
"seeks to honor individuals and organizations in
fields that have contributed to the dissemination
and promotion of a culture of peace throughout the
world."
The announcement of this recognition coincided with
the debut of the Caracas Youth Symphony Orchestra in
Tokyo Metropolitan Arts Space, during the
commemoration of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic
relations between Venezuela and Japan.
The Venezuelan expressed his appreciation for the
distinction. "This will allow me to redouble my
efforts to build a better world by planting music in
the soul of children and youth," he said .
Similarly , he expressed his desire to consolidate
"many favorable projects" linking Venezuela and
Japan.
José Antonio Abreu was born in Trujillo state
(southwestern Venezuela) in 1939. He is a composer,
pianist, and organist, besides being an economist.
Throughout his career he has received numerous
awards and honors. Last year he was awarded an
honorary doctorate by the Institute of Education,
University of London in recognition of his social
service.
He also received the Prince of Asturias Award for
the Arts, the Peace Prize in Seoul, South Korea, and
the Polar Music Prize Stig Anderson from the Music
Award Foundation in Sweden.
Recently, the Venezuelan orchestral director was
awarded the Latin American Music Award from the
Municipal Foundation of Culture of the City of
Cadiz, Spain, and the award, Caritas in Veritate,
from the International Academy of Hagiography
(exemplary biography).
