Exchanges with Cuba Promote Kingian Nonviolence

The Institute for Human Rights and Responsibilities (IHRR) is offering a series of regional Kingian Nonviolence Leadership Seminars/programs. The next seminar will be held in Columbus, OH October 13-16. Annual seminars and events will be conducted in sixteen US regions as part of the Cuba/US Kingian Nonviolence Alliance and Exchange Program in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The IHRR was founded in 1978 to promote leadership education for nonviolent democratic social change programs and projects (www.KingianNonviolence.info).
These in-US regional exchange programs will partner with the Kingian Nonviolence educators in sixteen Cuban provinces with the Centro Memorial Martin Luther King Jr. (CMMLK) in Havana. The CMMLK was founded in 1987 to provided training and education in Dr. King's philosophy of nonviolence. These regions include: Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New Jersey, North Carolina, Philadelphia, Oakland, Seattle, and Ohio (Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus).
Thirteen ecumenical and interfaith Cuban religious groups are the major participants in the CMMLK Kingian Nonviolence program. The IHRR-CMMLK jointly conducted eleven five-day regional Kingian Nonviolence Leadership Seminars in Cuba for 580 local leaders (1998-2003). This initiative led to the formation of the Cuba/US Nonviolence Alliance (CUNA)- a program of IHRR and the lead sponsor of this initiative in the US.
The 2004 seminars in Ohio are for US regional activist leaders to become involved with Cuban nonviolence leaders AND/OR people interested in developing the capacity for a national nonviolence justice and peace movement in the US. The content of the seminar, based on the campaigns Dr. King led, include intellectual and theological roots going back hundreds of years. I think Martin Luther King, Jr. would be happy that "drum majors for justice" are using the latest technologies to advance the cause of racial justice. The "just Democracy Blog" is a wonderful resource . One of the goals of the bloggers is to advance the national dialogue on racial justice. I recommend joing the Advancement Project mailing list.
