Mediterranean Cities for Peace Conference

"What kind of local policies to promote a culture
of Peace?"
The Conference of Cities for Peace in the
Mediterranean will be held from 19 to 21 September
2013 in Aubagne (Bouches-du-Rhône, France).

Organized on the initiative of Aubagne (France),
Granollers (Spain) and Biograd na Moru (Croatia)
and under the patronage of Mayors for Peace, the
AFCDRP / Mayors for Peace France, Mayors for Peace
Spain and Mayors for Peace Croatia, this
conference will bring together community members
of the international network, Mayors for Peace
around the Mediterranean.
The conference is also open to communities that are
not yet adherent to Mayors for Peace.

Thursday, September 19: Welcome to delegations /

Friday, September 20: Morning:
* Plenary 1: Welcome to delegations / introduction
of conference / presentation of the program of work
* Plenary 2: PEACE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN, URGENT
NEED: Issues and implications of current conflicts,
weapons of mass destruction, the place of cities in
international fora: *
* Workshops:
The role of women: political and social
representation
Intercultural dialogue in Mediterranean cities:
diversity and proximity of Mediterranean cultures,
pluralism, coexistence of religions, secularism,
freedom of religion
What tools for a culture of peace for cities in
crisis? : Mediation and practical solidarity,
peace education,
participatory democracy
Evening: Citizens meetings
Saturday, September 21: Plenary
- Report of work in workshops and public debates
- Preparation of the final declaration
End of work

International Cities of Peace, an association of global cities of peace, is using the U.N. Culture of Peace tenets as the guideline for forming initiatives. To date, thirty-one cities are part of the association. Some are grassroots organizations, others have the firm commitment by resolution or proclamation from the city council.
