Forum for the promotion of culture of peace and development at Siguiri, Guinea

In the framework of the forum, planned for late in
the month of May 2013, there will be ten thematic
participative workshops. The initiative comes from
nationals and residents under the leadership of
the commission of reflexion on the development of
Siguiri (CRDS). The goal is to lay the foundation
for development and support sustainable peace in
the prefecture of Siguiri.

Since 1985, Guinea has embarked on a
decentralization process that encourages
communities to take charge of their own
development based on their own natural solidarity.
This implies a shared responsibility between the
state and communities organized in local
collectivities with financial and managerial
autonomy. As part of this process, the prefecture
of Siguiri counts as of today 12 local
collectivities including one urban and 11 rural.
The organization of this forum is to help the
prefecture of Siguiri solve solve problems,
especially concerning the culture of peace and
development. This is in consideration of the
province's significant socio-economic and human
potential.

International Cities of Peace, an association of global cities of peace, is using the U.N. Culture of Peace tenets as the guideline for forming initiatives. To date, thirty-one cities are part of the association. Some are grassroots organizations, others have the firm commitment by resolution or proclamation from the city council.
