30e édition du jamboree arabe : Une délégation des Scouts musulmans algériens à Alexandrie

Une délégation composée de 40 scouts algériens s'est rendue mercredi (25 aout) en Egypte pour prendre part au jamboree arabe prévu à Alexandrie sous le slogan «Le scoutisme, un mode de vie». La participation de la délégation algérienne à ce jamboree qui durera jusqu'au 2 septembre, vise à mettre en relief les performances des scouts algériens tout en procédant à un échange d'expériences et à une évaluation de son action en comparaison avec les autres délégations arabes, a indiqué le commandant général des Scouts musulmans algériens (SMA), M. Noureddine Benbraham, lors d'une cérémonie peu avant le départ de la délégation.

Cette rencontre est une "occasion de raffermir les liens d'amitié et de fraternité entre les jeunes scouts arabes, encourager le dialogue autour de questions et défis les intéressant et ancrer la culture de la paix et de la compréhension mutuelle, a précisé M. Benbraham. C'est une occasion aussi pour découvrir le riche patrimoine culturel d'Egypte, a-t-il encore dit. Au programme du jamboree organisé à l'occasion du centenaire du mouvement scout, figurent notamment des conférences sur diverses questions liées à la jeunesse dans le monde arabe et des concours scientifiques et de loisirs, ainsi que des sessions sportives.
Prennent part à ce jamboree organisé par l'Union générale des scouts d'Egypte et des mourchidate, en collaboration avec l'Organisation arabe du scoutisme, des délégations de 20 pays arabes.
Par ailleurs, le commandant général des SMA a affirmé que les scouts algériens préparent la 27e conférence arabe prévue à Alger en mai 2013 sous le slogan «Le scoutisme et la citoyenneté efficace».

The relationship between scouting and the culture of peace goes back to the 1990's when I was at the UNESCO Culture of Peace Programme and we established a working relationship with the World Organization of Scouting based in Geneva, Switzerland.
We conducted culture of peace training for scouts through the Council of Europe and established an agreement which included the development of a scouting branch of the culture of peace news network (CPNN). At one point we sent a trainer to the World Scout Jamboree held in Chile to train scouts as CPNN moderators. CPNN was represented at the academic meeting in Geneva in 2007 to celebrate the 100 years of scouting (see The role of Scouting and the coming generation in the historic transformation from the culture of war to a culture of peace).
The scouts of Algeria and Korea were especially active in distributing and getting over a million signatures on the Manifesto 2000 commitment to practice a culture of peace in everyday life.
Scouting organizations in Algeria and Argentina reported their work for a culture of peace in the World Report for the Culture of Peace in 2005 and 2010 for the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World.
Recently CPNN has carried articles on scouting initiatives for culture of peace in Senegal, Iceland and Algeria.
