	An Islamic Response to Kairos Palestine an article by Carmencita Karagdag, Peace for Life In 2009, Palestinian Christian leaders issued The Kairos Palestine Document, “the Christian Palestinians’ word to the world about what is happening in Palestine.” Impelled by a moral duty to respond to the declaration, Muslim members of Peace for Life (PfL) have launched an initiative to promote a common response to Kairos Palestine from an Islamic perspective, through the document, An Islamic Response to Kairos Palestine. click on photo to enlarge The initiative was an outcome of the two-day “Christian-Muslim Dialogue for Solidarity with Palestine” held in South Africa in November 2011. The event, one of the series of PfL-supported national initiatives on Palestine solidarity, was hosted by PfL with the support of Kairos Southern Africa and the Beyers Naude Centre at the University of Stellenbosch. Prof. Farid Esack, former PfL co-moderator and head of the Department of Religion Studies at the University of Johannesburg, facilitated the workshop and led the drafting of this document. Also behind this project are PfL Working Group members Prof. Chandra Muzaffar, founder and president of the Malaysia-based International Movement for a Just World, and Irfan Engineer, director of the Institute for Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution in India. Among the initial signatories are Dr. Ashgar Ali Engineer, chairman of the Centre for the Study of Society and Secularism in India; Naeem Jeenah, director of the Afro-Middle East Center and coordinator of the Palestine Solidarity Committee based in Johannesburg; and Prof. Julkipli Wadi, dean of Islamic Studies at the University of the Philippines.
