Peace Building Iraq Appeal to Schools World-Wide 2003
an article by Hans Levander

Schools in Iraq will soon ask for partner-schools worldwide! The Iraqi Minister of Education has agreed on the non-political Life-Link Friendship-Schools Programme, with its international office in Uppsala Sweden, to be offered and introduced at schools all over Iraq!

The Life-Link programme has two interrelated parts:

1.PEACE ACTIONS AT/AROUND SCHOOLS. School classes choose, plan and perform small "2 hours" peace actions at/around their schools - "Act Locally and Build Peace Where You Live!" The proposed peace actions are grouped under 3 + 1 themes: Care for Myself (Health concerns), Care for Others (Peace and Conflict resolution), Care for Nature (Environmentally oriented actions). Life-Link also stresses the importance of Project Management, Lets Get Organized! After performing a small "2 hours Actions" a simple report is sent to Life-Link international office and introduced on www.life-link.org

2. FRIENDSHIP-SCHOOLS COMMUNICATION. When the school is registered and a peace action reported, the school is qualified to profit from the second Life-Link programme option: The school might want to connect to another school with similar interests, like Water? Drugs? Religions and Peace? Project Management? This second phase will help to "Think and Communicate Globally"!

BENEFITS. The Life-Link programme will inspire several actors: *the Youth - Boys/Girls; *the Educators; *the Schools curriculum and reputation; *the Community, parents included; *the State and Inter-State relations; and finally *how we Care for our common Living-Room the Earth. Local peace actions connects to world affairs, Youth and schools will be part of confidence building across borders and setting the standards for global citizenship! Youth and schools in societies at risk must be of special concern for the Life- Link programme: WELCOME TO JOIN AN URGENT ACTION FOR THE BENEFIT OF IRAQI YOUTH AND SCHOOLS! 260 schools in 60 countries have since year 2000 reported on 1060 peace actions to Life Link.
