Be an actor in the International Day of Peace September 2014 at UNESCO
an article by Michel Thouzeau, Chief of NGO project for the International Day of Peace 2014 at UNESCO

2014 is 100 years after the outbreak of the First World War, with its millions of dead and wounded, and its unimaginable destruction.

This should give us new impetus to work together to eliminate all wars, to work together to educate for peace, because there will be no peace without peace education and the news everyday shows how much it is needed.

A group of over twenty international NGOs will organize at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris a major mobilization on September 19, two days before the International Day of Peace, with the approval of the Board of UNESCO / NGO Liaison.

The event will include a round table discussion on "What Education for Sustainable Peace?" and a concert "all Calliope" and " Vivid Voice" which ends with a call to release new energies for peace education.

We invite local councils, communes, mayors and village chiefs to send us before the end of May a copy of a resolution of your meeting deciding to participate in the event (including financial participation if possible).

Your resolution will be included in the guestbook of the day. Please include your achievements and your projects related to peace education, and the address of a website if you have one.

You will receive an official certificate of your participation. Also we are considering to publish a book summarizing all of your accomplishments and your commitments.

Hoping that many of you will respond to our call, we thank you for your understanding.

To receive updated versions of the project, please send your email address to michel.thouzeau@gmail.com

It is difficult to find extensive listings of the many events celebrating the International Day of Peace around the world.  An exception is the United Religions Initiative which lists events for the IDP 2014 by their affiliates in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, United States and the Philippines.
