35th Anniversary of Peace Day in Chicago
an article by WBEZ Radio

Chicago is home to the longest running official Peace Day of any city in the world. Our Peace Day has been around even longer than the United Nations International Day of Peace.

Come out to celebrate the diversity of our city and world and lend your voice to the Call to Peace. To the sounds of live world music, the flags of each world nation are presented on stage as we all make the call, "Peace in..." each country, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe.

Hear from Commissioner Mona Noriega and other leaders striving to build a Culture of Peace in our city. Find out what's happening with peace education in our schools. Enjoy cultural performances and observe the Minute of Silence for Peace with the Chicago Consular Corps, students, members of cultural organizations, business people, families and folks like you.

It is difficult to find extensive listings of the many events celebrating the International Day of Peace around the world.  An exception is the United Religions Initiative which lists events for the IDP 2014 by their affiliates in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bulgaria, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, United States and the Philippines.
