Question: Shall America be held to the same standards as Iraq?, If so, what more can be done about it? CPNN article: Who will Disarm America?

The Biggest Threat has not been Named

The American People and the People of the world have a great threat to our safety and security that our government has not told us about.

There is a country that fits the criteria for the invasion and occupation of Iraq ten times over.  And unlike Iraq where two of the three criteria did not actually occur , all three do apply to this threat of our safety.

This country is ruled by a leader that could not even win an election he had rigged and was put into power by a hand full of people.   I personally don’t think the US or any country has the right to intervene in another because they don’t approve of the countries political system, but this is one point raised by the Bush administration as a reason to invade Iraq.

However, this power is a real threat because it is a nation,  much like the Japanese at Pearl Harbor, that invades countries without any prior attack, a violation of international law. Twice in recent years, it is currently intervening in a civil war and threatening aggression against five other countries.  This threat rivals the threat against the sovereignty of nations by WW II Germany.

This danger is greatly compounded by the fact that, unlike Iraq, this country really does have a massive arsenal of Weapons of Mass Destruction- nuclear, biological and chemical- and has used them.   No fabrication or intelligence screw up here, it is readily acknowledged.

This nation is also a threat because it has military agents in over a hundred countries.  Its greed is a major force in enforcing impoverishment, deplorable medical, housing, and educational conditions for hundreds of millions.

Patriots must unite with the majority of the World’s population and fight this menace if we our to maintain our way of life of peace, freedom, justice and a quality life for all.

People who believe in the American Ideal  must  actively educate about the present danger and begin to take action.  We must call on the people and the United Nations to implement policies that will force regime change, disarmament,  and a vow by this rogue nation never to intervene into the internal affairs of other nations again.

If the description did not already make it obvious,  the threat to our people and the people of the world is none other than the US.

To end this threat and regain our heritage we must start at the very least by actively working for the impeachment of George Bush II,  and to have him indicted by the World Court for the invasion and crimes in Iraq.

Immediately, we must make clear that as a people we support moves of the Afghani and Iraqi people for freedom and independence.  To prevent any possible danger to our service people we must demand that our government immediately withdraw our forces from the two countries and the Middle East as a whole.

If  “our”  government refuses,  we must actively support any independent action of ours troops to withdraw, such as happened with the sit down strikes at the end of the Pacific World War II   and in Vietnam, and troops arranging their own transportation out of the region, etc.

Any deaths of our troops is the direct responsibility of those who put them in harm’s way, the US government, not those in the Middle East demanding their freedom.

More profoundly,  we need a regime change to return our country to a democracy.  If the parties themselves will not change , we will need to start replacing the Republican and Democratic Parties that have supported policies  for decades that threatened our safety.  Both parties have sent us to fight and occupy countries in illegal wars and have exposed us to acts of retribution like 09/11  for these unjust acts.

During the transition of these Imperial Parties,  we need to try and convince the leaders we presently have to start the disarmament of our massive arsenal built for over the last 50 years. It is an military for aggression and world domination, not for defense.  To avoid losing jobs we would need to re-tool our industry from one based on war and domination to one of useful products and evolve our military from warriors to become construction and aid workers.  They could become Peace and Justice ambassadors to rebuild the damage we have caused through military and economic policy.  We literally need to “beat swords into plowshares”.

Finally, we should push for the dissolution of the UN Security Council which constantly thwarts the will of the worlds’ peoples and give the General Assembly the power of enforcement.  These wars would not have happened, the conflict between Israel and Palestine has long ago been resolved by resolutions of the General Assembly.

We could then truly become a country of co-operation and peace instead of and empire of world domination.

These may seem like extreme measures,  but our nation has traveled far from the ideals of peace, democracy and goodwill it espouses.  These extreme measures are the only way we can regain our nation’s soul as Martin Luther King . Jr used to put it.

The alternative will be decades of death for our sons and daughters and the people of the world;  increased taxes to pay for policing a world empire;  and decreased services for education, medical care and housing with the biggest burden falling on the poor and more and more the middle classes ( the billion dollar “tax break”  for the top 5% of the population, for example).

“For a future to be possible”, we must return to the values of our nation and resist the Empire which has replaced it.   Even more deeply,  we need to return to the teaching of one of our spiritual leaders, that the President and our government has abandoned,  Jesus of Nazareth.  Jesus taught values of peace, justice and cooperation in the world, not war and domination.  “ Love your enemies as you would yourself.  Blessed are the peacemakers.  Clothe those among you who have nothing to wear, feed those without food. The first shall be last, the last shall be first ” . This is the only way for us and the world  to have a future.

With regard to the question of Who Will Disarm America, did readers see the Bill Moyers show last week with guest Franklin Spinney recently retired from the Pentagon?  He used a phrase I had never heard before: the military-industrial-congressional complex.  And he explained how congressional representatives are constantly bought off by the defense industry on the excuse of providing jobs for their congressional districts, not to mention big political campaign contributions.  Some of this is on the PBS page for the Moyers programme.

It sounds like that we have to begin by disarming the US Congress if we are to get out of the terrible situation that is described by Bronrose1951 in the comment before this one.
