Responses to the article on protests against the World Economic Forum Meeting in New York City have been varied. One perspective is that the protests were effective in that they drew media attention on the event and informed many people of a negative portrayal of the World Economic Forum. It is noted that protest is important because it generates discussion and demonstrates that there is "a visible body of people that does not support the WEF." It was noted that the City of New York overestimated the scale of the protests in light of the protests in Seattle and Genoa. Other readers believe that protesting is not the right approach to making positive change and that all that it accomplishes is drawing media attention. One reader criticized the drive for mainstream media attention, citing that the only objective of mainstream media is to sell advertisements.

If we don't get a message out to the "mainstream" media, how will 90% of the population realize that there is dissent? Alternative media like CPNN is good. But, can we really expect it to compete with mutli-national news firms from day one? I think that's why, when you have a protest, you should write an article for CPNN. But, call Fox News too. With any luck, people will become aware through the "mainstream" and head over to CPNN for the "real" coverage.    :;):
