Book Review - The Bully: A Discussion and Activity Story
un articulo por R. Toews

Encountering a bully is one of the toughest situations children can face. As parents, caregivers, and teachers, we owe it to our children to make sure they know what to do if they are bullied. The Bully: A Discussion and Activity Story, fits that need perfectly.

Comments by teachers about the lack of resources for young students in grades K-3 prompted the author to publish The Bully. It has proven popular with teachers in Canada, the U.S. and as far away as Tasmania.

In The Bully, a short story sets a scene children encounter all too frequently - a school bully. The story is followed by a question and answer section that gives children insight on how a bully operates, helps children verbalize how they feel when they are bullied, and gives suggestions on what actions children can take when a bully strikes.

The book's excellent illustrations make it suitable to be used as a colouring book, and a number of activity sheets turn this workbook into a "funbook" as the stressful topic is discussed.

A question and answer section for caregivers provides information on how to identify a bully problem, and gives helpful suggestions on how to deal with the situation. Of special interest to teachers - the subject of positive role-modeling within the home is emphasized, as is working with the school to resolve a school bully problem.

The Bully is available at www.thebullybook.com as a free electronic download and in print format.
